Pork production was 0.5% higher than in the same period last year.
According to preliminary figures, commercial slaughterhouses in Germany produced just under 3.4 million tons of meat in the first half of 2026. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), this represents a decrease of 0.4%, or 14,700 tons, compared to the same period of the previous year. A total of 24.0 million pigs, cattle, sheep, goats, and horses, as well as 343.2 million chickens, turkeys, and ducks, were slaughtered in these facilities during the first half of 2026.
The number of pigs slaughtered increased by 0.5%, or 107,000 animals, to 22.2 million in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period of the previous year.
The number of domestically sourced pigs slaughtered was 21.9 million (+163,800 animals, or +0.8%). Domestically sourced animals accounted for 98.4% of the total number of pigs slaughtered. The number of slaughtered pigs of foreign origin decreased by 14.0% to 349,200 animals.
The amount of pork produced in the first half of 2026 was 2.2 million tons, an increase of 10,300 tons or 0.5%.
For years, pork has accounted for the largest share of commercial meat production in Germany. In the first half of 2026, 63.7% of the meat produced came from slaughtered pigs. This was followed by poultry with a share of 22.3% and beef with 13.7%. Meat from sheep, goats, and horses made up only about 0.3% of total production.
The livestock subsector advanced 2%, driven by poultry production.
The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) reported that Peru's agricultural sector grew by 1.2% during the first half of 2026 (January-June), compared to the same period in 2025. This result combined a 0.8% increase in the crop subsector and a 2.0% increase in the livestock subsector.
Within the crop subsector, the largest increases were seen in blueberries (+23.7%, due to increased acreage in La Libertad, Lambayeque, and Ica), sugarcane (+23.0%, in La Libertad, Lambayeque, and Piura), oil palm (+16.7%, in San Martín and Ucayali), yellow dent corn (+10.7%, in Ica, San Martín, and Lambayeque), starchy corn (+9.0%, in Cusco, Cajamarca, and Amazonas), and paddy rice (+7.5%, in Lambayeque, Tumbes, and Piura). Pecans led the way in the first half of the year with a 112% increase in Ica, a fruit that the Ministry of Agriculture (Midagri) highlighted for its quality and size, both for local consumption and export.
In June alone, the ministry reported additional increases in pecans (+177%, Ica), blueberries (+28.3%, Ica, Áncash, and Lima), quinoa (+24.6%, Apurímac and Cusco), starchy corn (+22.9%, Cajamarca, Cusco, and Amazonas), and dry beans (+19.3%, Huancavelica and Amazonas).

"Kiełbasa pradziada z Dukli" (Prague sausage from Dukla) has been included in the EU Register of Protected Geographical Indications (PGI).
The European Commission's decision means that the product's name is protected throughout the European Union. It is the 51st Polish product to be protected by the EU quality system, confirming the unique character of regional food products and their connection to their place of origin.
"Kiełbasa pradziada z Dukli" is made with the meat and liver of Puławska pigs or their crossbreeds. It has the traditional wreath shape and is distinguished by its very low fat content, no more than 5%.
Its distinctive feature is the combination of ham with large pieces of liver and the traditional smoking method. Only beech and alder wood are used for production, with the addition of cherry or sour cherry wood. This gives the sausage its characteristic flavor, aroma, and appearance.
